Top Fantasy Books - A Fan Of Fantasy

What exactly are your all time favourite top fantasy books? I bet many of you will have thought Lord Of The Rings immediately! Using the recent success of Bet on Thrones on television an additional series possibly on the way in addition to a movie version from the Hobbit coming our way next year it should be fair to say that the fantasy genre is really as strong as always. For anyone who aren't fans from the genre or possibly just passive fans hopefully we can convert you!

The fantasy genre really started long ago in Victorian times with authors for example William Morris and George MacDonald. The prosperity of fantasy books today though probably lays at the door of 1 man, J.R.R Tolkien, creator of some of the top fantasy books for example Lord Of The Rings, The Hobbit and also the Silmarillion. It had been Tolkien who had been the first to really create a whole world to base his books in, his world as many already know was Middle-Earth.

It has been said that Tolkien came up with the thought of Middle-Earth when sat in the back garden looking over the hills and imagining wars between different races happening across them. It had been out of this imagination that one of, if not the greatest book trilogy's ever were created.

Simultaneously as Tolkien was creating Middle-Earth a good friend of his, C.S. Lewis, seemed to be creating their own fantasy world referred to as Narnia, his books also went on to huge success with The Lion, The Witch and also the Wardrobe becoming one of the top fantasy books ever, not just that, it also has a few movie variations in the decades after, making the 1950's the true-birth of fantasy.

As we fast forward 60 years and enter any decent book shop the fantasy genre is probably one of the largest sections, a lot of its success should be pointed towards it's founders but even today we've classic fantasy books being released all the time. Fans from the television series Game Of Thrones might have since gone out and bought the book, possibly even the titles after in the A Song Of Ice And Fire series, one of the greatest fantasy series of in history. It is because of those current authors for example Martin and Hobb the fantasy genre continues such strong fashion and it is because of them we will never become bored from the fantasy genre.
