Apple is one of many most successful business to strike the techno world. Using their top selling products, people always watch out for their latest developments and produces like the iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, iPad and Apple TV. And whenever a new product comes out, it never does not be a huge strike in the industry. Having its discharge in year 2007, iPhone draw its name on the market, but soon after its discharge, a Jailbreaking method was discovered and launched. Subsequently, Apple closed thei iPhones to US company AT&T a month after, giving hackers problem to spot and exploit security holes.

What's Jailbreak?

Jailbreak or iOS Jailbreak is a process that allows Apple's products operating on iOS such as iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad and Apple TV to gain full use of all its functions thereby eliminating limitations imposed by Apple. With Jailbroken Apple system, user can use, down load and deploy programs, designs, and extensions that are not identified by Apple and aren't on the iTunes store and/or what we called "cracked" programs.

Nearly a year after the original Jailbreak, a french hacker named Zibri el Fontu found an important key to led him to be the first to Jailbreak the iPhone using his system called ZiPhone. Zibri readily distributed his limitations and exploits leading the hacker group named iPhone Dev Team to produce the Jailbreaking instrument PwnageTool to Jailbreak iPhone 2G and 3G and the 1ST generation iPod touch. As early as 2009, Apple discharge the iOS 3.0 which remained unbroken until the release of iPhone Dev Team's PwnageTool 3.0 and redsnow 0.7.2 after 3 months. The iOS 3.0 was rapidly followed up by iOS 3.1 that was then Jailbroken by iPhone Dev Team releasing a new edition of PwnageTool, all Apple units were Jailbroken except iPod Touch. But the Jailbreaking genius George Hotz (a.k.a. Geohot) release his first instrument Blackra1n to "tether" Jailbreak all Apple units. In March 2010 Wii Homebrew creator Comex launched a test of an "untethered" Jailbreak using his tool called Spirit. Following the discharge of iPad 3G, Comex's Spirit was launched Jailbreaking all Apple products working on 3.1-3.2, untethered. Not until early 2010, Jailbreaking becomes legal beneath the DMCA in Usa and many other nations like Europe even though Apple declare it to void the warranty. So far Jailbreaking is still developing as new Apple units or firwares are released.

What's Tethered and Untethered Jailbreak?

Lots of people, especially the beginners in Jailbreaking do not know the difference between a tether Jailbreak and untethered Jailbreak. Well to make it brief and distinct, Tethered Jailbreaking is a type of Jailbreak that also depends on the software used to Jailbreak a product each time it needs to system, meaning, everytime the tethered product is hard kicked, turn off or ran out of battery it cannot boot on a jailbroken state until you connect it to the computer and run the program you applied to Jailbrake it, repeating some of the procedure for Jailbreaking. While on the other hand, Untethered Jailbreak, all products under this Jailbreak can independently reboot itself anytime, preserving its Jailbroken state without needing the application used to Jailbreak it.
